GSE Programs

Development interventions that focus on vocational skills training (VST) in catering and culinary arts (food preparation), tailoring (sewing), and beautification of women (hair dresssing) are the three major types of trainng offered by GSE at its own Training center, Pre-school education, day care services for toddlers and pre-school childeren and lighthouse schools are the other components of GSE program. The day care services for pre-school age children are designed in such a way to make young mothers free from child care and focus on their vocational skills and till they graduate and start income generating busineesses. Teh children are given food, clothes, health care and education by well trained teachers and caretakers. Our daycare center is one of the model centers selecte dby local government and donors. The third important area of intervention added recently is the rehabilitation, reunification with their families and reintegration.

The leadership of the organization plays networking roles with donors and partner agenices including private secotrs and civil society organizations to empower the underpriviledged beneficiaries of the program, promoting gender equality and inclusiveness while enhancing the quality of livelihood for the target beneficiaries.

Partnership for Change (PfC), A Norway based humanitarian organization is fully supporting our daycare project and vcational skills training project since 2015. We extended our healtfelt thanks to PfC on behalf the beneficiary women and children whose lives are being changed on sustainable basis.

Since its foundatioin, more than 3000 women and school dropout girls graduated in different types of vocational skills. Most of our graduate pass the COC (Certificate of COmpetency) exam to get officially accepted certifacte and employement in their respective field of training. Access to soft loan is facilitated for those interested in starting their own businesses by organizing them in to self-help gorups (SHG). Vision Fund Micro-financing Institution is partenring with us to provide soft loans for graduates from our vocational skill training project. In second bi-annual of 2021, a total of 26 VSC graduates were organised in self-help groups and got access to soft loan to start their own businesses. Soft loan for another 20 vocational skills graduate women in being processed.

200 male street childeren benefited from the Urban Destitute Support Proejct at Akaki center since 2019. The childeren were rehabilitated, reunited with their families and reintegrated ecomonically, educationallly and Socially. Vocational SKill training was offered to 50 of these street children in 2020 and 2021. Some of these children have started their own business after reunification with their families while others are employed by priveate business owners.

60 children under 3 years of age were cared for at the Akaki daycare center since we began the service in 2021. ALl the children belong to mothers whose families are under very difficult economic situation. Such mothers are able to engage themselves in income generating activities as they become free from the responsibility of childcare.

Income generating schemes are being initiated and promoted that include bakery, hair dressing, catering, and evening VST to women at an affordable tuition fee.

A total of 67 children age 4 - 6 attended school at lighthouses and benefited from child sponsorship program at Holeta town and in Addis Ababa. Saving accounts were opened for each child in the branches of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia as a bond for future withdrawal.
